Last month, I read through St. Photios the Great’s The Mystagogy of the Holy Spirit. I posted some selections from that work, on which I will be offering my reflections and comments after I finish the reflections on St. Gregory Palamas’ Dialogue between an Orthodox and a Barlaamite.
I recently discovered that St. Photios’ Mystagogy is available online: St Photius the Great: Mystagogy of the Holy Spirit.
I also discovered that St. Photios’ encyclical is also available online:
Saint Photius the Great’s Encyclical to the Eastern Patriarchs.
Be forewarned: St. Photios is quite polemical in his presentation. But his arguments are powerful. If you can cut through the “miserable, damnable heresies” talk, you will be confronted with arguments that are strong, cogent and (as far as I’m concerned) irrefutable.
